Agency

Become your own agent

You are the one driving.

Think about what a sports agent actually does. An agent works for one person. Their whole job is to look out for that athlete's best interest: speak up for what they are worth, protect their time and energy, say no to what does not serve them, get them into the best environments, line up the right training and recovery, and think about the long game when the athlete is only thinking about this week. A great agent never talks down about their client. They believe in them on the days the athlete does not.

Now here is the shift: you can become your own agent. Nobody is more responsible for your growth than you. Agency is the quiet belief that you are the one driving, not your coach, not your luck, not your last result. It is the difference between this is happening to me and I get to decide what I do next, and it might be the most important thing you can build, because everything else in this room only works if you believe your choices actually matter.

So ask yourself honestly: if someone represented you the way you currently represent yourself, would you keep them? Would you keep an agent who let you skip sleep, said yes to everything that drained you, talked badly about you in every room, and never asked for more? Most of us would fire that agent. So hire a better one. It is you.

It shows up in the small votes: what you eat, when you sleep, who you spend your energy on, how you talk to yourself, whether you do the extra reps when no one is watching. Each one is a vote for the athlete and the person you are becoming.

And here is the part that ties it all together: agency is self worth in motion. When you keep making the best decisions for yourself, protecting your sleep, fueling well, walking away from what drains you, you are telling your nervous system, again and again, that you are worthy of success. You do not wait to feel worthy and then act. You act like your own best agent, and the worth follows.

Today's Rep

Imagine you just signed yourself as your own agent, and give that agent a name, an alter ego who is fully in your corner. Today, check in with your agent: what would they have you do next, and what would they never let you settle for?

Write It Out

Sign with yourself

  1. 01

If an agent watched your last seven days, what would they say you are doing right, and what would they call you out on?

  2. 02

What are you worth? Write the standard your agent would hold for how you are treated, by coaches, teammates, friends, and yourself.

  3. 03

What does your agent need to say no to this week to protect your time and energy?

  4. 04

What have you been waiting for someone else to do for you that you can go ask for, or do yourself?

  5. 05

What is the long game? Where is your agent trying to get you a year from now, and what is the next move toward it?
