Ask Your Body: The Sway Test
A simple way to check in with your body's yes and no.
Your body is always giving you feedback, most of us just stopped listening. The sway test is a simple, old practice for tuning back in: a way to ask your body a yes-or-no question and feel which way it leans. Some people use it to sense whether a food, a supplement, or a choice feels supportive for them right now.
Honest framing first: this is an intuition and body-awareness practice, not a medical test or a proven diagnostic. It won't tell you if you're allergic to something or whether a food is 'good' in any objective sense, see a real provider for that. What it can do is slow you down, get you out of your head, and help you notice the quiet signals your body is already sending. That noticing is the real value.
An intuitive body-awareness practice, not a validated diagnostic. Educational only.
How to Use Them
- 1Stand tall, feet hip-width, eyes closed, arms relaxed. Take a few slow breaths and settle.
- 2Establish your baseline: say out loud 'show me a yes' and notice which way your body gently drifts (often a subtle lean forward). Then 'show me a no' (often a lean back).
- 3Hold the food or thought in mind, or hold the item to your chest, and ask: 'does this serve my body right now?'
- 4Notice the lean, toward (yes) or away (no), without forcing it. Stay curious, not rigid.
- 5Treat it as one input among many: how you feel, how you sleep, how you perform. Your body's signals over time matter more than any single sway.
Educational content for healthy athletes and active people, not medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace care from your own doctor. Check with a qualified provider before starting anything new, especially if you are pregnant, managing a condition, or taking medication.
